What Ends Up in the Container
What the shed is built from decides the load more than its footprint does. A resin or vinyl kit shed goes in light and takes almost no room. A wood shed with asphalt shingles, plywood sheathing and 2x4 framing is several times the weight for the same size building, and a metal shed sits in between but eats more space than people expect, because bent panels will not stack flat.
Two other things come with it. Whatever was stored in the shed goes in the same container, so tell us if the contents are coming out too. Paint, solvents, fuel cans, pesticides, propane tanks and tires cannot go in a container at all, and those need a household hazardous waste drop-off instead.
Size the Container by Weight, Not by Footprint
A 10x12 shed looks like a small pile once it is down, which is why people reach for the smallest container and then run into the weight allowance. Shingles and plywood are heavy for the space they take up, so weight fills the box before the walls do. Our containers include 1.5 tons on the 10 yard, 2 tons on the 20, 3 tons on the 30 and 4 tons on the 40, and anything over is $75 per additional ton.
| What is coming down | Container that usually handles it | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Resin or vinyl kit shed, no slab | 10 yard | Panels are light, so volume is the only limit |
| Metal shed, no slab | 10 yard | Bent panels do not stack, so break them down flat |
| Wood shed up to about 10x12, no slab | 10 or 20 yard | Shingles and plywood push the weight up fast |
| Wood shed with a shingled roof plus a concrete slab | 20 yard, sometimes two loads | The slab can outweigh the entire structure |
| Large barn-style shed or workshop | 20 or 30 yard | Add room for whatever was stored inside |
If the shed is coming down as part of a bigger yard or garage project, size up rather than booking a second delivery. The jump from a 10 to a 20 costs less than two separate 10 yard rentals, and you get the same seven days to work.
Tell Us About the Slab Before Delivery
A concrete slab changes which container you need, so it is the first thing we ask about. Plenty of customers leave the slab in place and use it as a patio pad, a grill station or the base for a new shed, and nothing changes on our end. If it is coming out, the slab is often heavier than the entire structure that sat on it, and that decides whether it rides along or gets its own load.
We usually suggest keeping concrete separate from the wood. Clean concrete and brick can often be recycled rather than landfilled, and a mixed container carrying a shingled roof plus broken slab runs through its weight allowance quickly. Our post on how much concrete debris weighs shows how fast that happens. Give us the slab dimensions when you book and we will tell you which way to go.
Delivery, Placement and Pickup
Book the container for the morning the work starts rather than the day after. We set it where you are working, which for a backyard shed usually means as close to the gate or the side yard as the driveway allows, and we protect the driveway surface when we place it. Same-day delivery is often available if you call before noon, seven days a week, and every rental includes seven days on site, so the container is still there when the cleanup runs longer than planned.
Two things keep the haul simple on our end. Dense material like shingles should sit on the floor of the container rather than on top, and the load needs to stay level with the top rail so the driver can tarp it legally. If the pile turns out bigger than the box, call before pickup day. We can swap the container or extend the rental, which beats an overloaded container the truck cannot take.
We deliver these containers across Austin, Georgetown, Round Rock, Leander and the rest of Central Texas, and it is one flat rate covering delivery, pickup and disposal, from $369 plus tax on the 10 yard. We supply the container and handle the haul-off. The teardown itself is yours or your contractor's, so the only thing we need from you is the shed size, whether there is a slab, and the address.
